My Mission & Values

  • De-stigmatize mental health support in the community.

Treatment Approach

Therapy is more than talking—it is an opportunity to better understand yourself and create lasting change.

As a licensed psychologist, I provide a warm, collaborative, and thoughtful space where we work together to identify your strengths, better understand the challenges that keep you feeling stuck, and build on the qualities that help you thrive. Rather than focusing on what's "wrong," we'll explore what has shaped you and develop practical ways to move toward the life and relationships you want.

I believe true well-being comes from understanding the connection between your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and physical well-being. As your self-awareness grows, you'll gain new insight into long-standing patterns and develop healthier, more effective ways of coping.

Many people begin therapy feeling uncertain, skeptical, or even anxious about the process. My goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where you feel understood, respected, and comfortable enough to explore what matters most. Clients often tell me therapy felt much more natural and helpful than they expected.

My therapeutic approach is primarily psychodynamic, meaning we explore the deeper experiences, beliefs, and relationship patterns that operate outside of conscious awareness. By understanding these underlying influences, you can break free from repetitive cycles instead of simply managing symptoms.

I integrate psychodynamic therapy with existential, humanistic, and interpersonal approaches to help you:

  • Develop greater self-awareness and emotional insight.

  • Understand recurring patterns in relationships.

  • Navigate complex or conflicting emotions with confidence.

  • Strengthen communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Build healthier relationships and a stronger sense of purpose.

  • Create meaningful, lasting change.  Together, we'll work toward helping you feel more connected to yourself, more fulfilled in your relationships, and more confident in living a life that reflects your values.

Meet Dr. Li

Welcome. I'm Dr. Robin Li, a licensed counseling psychologist with more than 20 years of experience helping adults navigate life's challenges. I am licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey and provide a warm, thoughtful, and culturally responsive approach to psychotherapy.

As an Asian American woman who was born and raised in the United States and later lived abroad, I appreciate how culture, identity, family, and life experiences shape who we are. I enjoy working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, identities, and walks of life, and I strive to create a space where every client feels respected, understood, and accepted.

I earned two master's degrees (Ed.M. and M.A.) in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University, followed by my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University at Lincoln Center in New York City. Throughout my career, I have also had the privilege of teaching and supervising graduate-level mental health counselor trainees.  I also had the privilege of serving a full term on the Board of Trustees for NAMI Mercer (National Alliance on Mental Illness – Mercer County), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. This experience reinforced my commitment to increasing mental health awareness through education, reducing stigma, and promoting compassionate, evidence-based care.

My clinical experience spans hospitals, outpatient medical centers, rehabilitation and assisted living facilities, schools and universities, military installations, and community mental health clinics. Across these settings, I have provided psychological assessment, diagnosis, consultation, and psychotherapy for individuals with a wide range of concerns. My therapeutic philosophy is grounded in a balanced perspective. While it is important to understand the challenges that may be contributing to emotional distress, I believe it is equally important to recognize and build upon each person's unique strengths, resilience, and capacity for growth. Together, we work to gain insight into longstanding patterns, develop practical strategies for change, and create a path toward greater emotional well-being and more fulfilling relationships.

I best serve young adults and older, who seek greater self-understanding, healthier relationships, and lasting emotional well-being. Some clients come for a brief consultation or assessment, while others choose longer-term individual, couples, or group therapy.  Regardless of your profession or background, you can expect a confidential, compassionate, and collaborative therapeutic experience tailored to your unique needs.  I believe that meaningful change begins with feeling seen, understood, and accepted. My goal is to provide a safe, collaborative space where you can better understand yourself, navigate life's challenges with greater confidence, and move toward lasting, meaningful solutions for change.
